July 25, 2014

Friday = funday
Today my girlie and I went to Los Angeles for the Friday Sample sale at the California Mart
 and ended up at the
Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising where three great exhibits are now open;
  • The Annual Outstanding Art of Television Costume Design
  • Designing Hollywood
  • Bound to Impress; Corsets from the Helen Larson Historic Fashion Collection

Also had an amazing lunch at one of my favorite restaurants,
Bottega Louie at 7th and Grand,
with one of my favorite people.

The macaroons are almost as sweet as my girlie :)

Then the most mind-numbing road occurrence in my entire life happened on the ride
back to Orange County...
Traffic completely stopped and after 1 hour of not moving 1 inch people started going bananas!!
Drivers started making u-turns and driving off the on-ramps right into cars exiting.
After 2 hours I finally succeeded in escaping the horrific gridlock.
An excruciating end to a wonderful day.

Woke up in Oregon at 4:30am to catch a 6:45am flight.
Landed just in time to go straight to work!

This is an exhausted me after too much food, too much beer, too many miles traveled :)

Oregon fast and furious

Made a fast get-away after work to begin a nonstop Oregon 84 hour adventure.

Powell Bookstore is largest independent chain of bookstores
Made it to Portland just in time to peruse some books

Deschutes Brewery; award winning craft beer pub
and have some micro-brews...

Next morning picked up a rental car for 5 HOUR drive to Ashland, Oregon.

www.abigailsbandb.com/
First time I have ever stayed at a Bed & Breakfast and it was amazing!

But, the point of the entire trip was the Shakespeare Festival; founded in 1935, one of the oldest and largest professional non-profit theatres in the nation

Succeeded in seeing four plays in 48 hours!

The venues are outstanding,

and seeing plays outside under the stars is a fabulous experience.

Yipee, woke up at 5am for five hour drive back to Portland.

Had less than 12 hours to explore all the wonderful, weirdness in Portland.

Started at the Saturday Market...

This guy is juggling knives!

full of arts and crafts and street performers.

Had to go to the famous Voodoo doughnut store.
After a 45 minute wait got all of three doughnuts!

Oreos and peanut butter on a glazed doughnut is delicious !!

And back to the famous Deschutes Craft beer pub.

A quick battle with a beaver sculpture because being weird in Portland is the norm:)

Enough said !
And my 84 hours in Oregon ended.

July 9, 2014

Groundhog day.
Woke up and went back to Los Angeles and back to all the stores again.

This trip I had a few of my favorite students with me :)

July 8, 2014

Super hot day for a super fun all day field trip to the fabric district in Los Angeles with 18 students.

So much fabric, so much temptation but, I need more fabric like a hole in my head.
I stayed strong and purchased NOTHING!!

However, tomorrow is another trip.

Hello July.
Comfy version of my summer work 'uniform'.

Accessory Close-up
New two-tone leather sandals with perfect heel from Off Saks Fifth Ave
Multi gold and enamel bangles
New brooch

This is my Three Graces cameo brooch that I desperately wanted in Rome but, it was WAY over my budget. Have seen ones on resale auction sites but, again the price went WAY over what I could pay. Imagine my total surprise when I found this one in a small jewelry store in my home town...
I held my breath as I inquired about the price and it was a super deal.
