October 25, 2013

I have been looking forward to today since last year when I attended my first ...

The caliber of the artists at this event is very high and what is sold is strictly monitored so, every booth has something unique and different.

Hand made felts and painted silks

Ribbon and fabric flowers

Everything vintage buttons!

Clever name for dyed original clothing

One of a kind items can make the crowd a little frenzied!

My new passion; repurposed clothing...

and I couldn't resist this repurposed jacket made from a wool blazer with a cashmere and knit pieced bottom half and mismatched vintage buttons.

It fits me perfectly, both my body and my style!

October 23, 2013

My BFF talked me into buying cheap seats online to see Priscella Queen of the Desert and we totally lucked out with really great seats!

And a play is so much more fun when there are props to pose with in the lobby
( that's me in the green glasses :)

I already kinda knew the story line but, what really interested me was the fantastic music and the way over-the-top costumes.
During the 2 1/2 hour play I saw more than 500 costumes, 150 pairs of shoes, 60 wigs, and 200 hats
( according to a review in the newspaper )

The main three characters were very convincing as drag queens. I thought one was actually a woman actress pretending to be a man being a woman...if that makes sense.

Staying with the drag theme you could use a completely random chance method ( ping pong balls in a giant fish bowl with words written on them ) to discover your 'drag name'

Of course I selected my drag name...
Introducing Violet Margarita!

A night of lots of laughs, music and shoulda danced in the aisles.

Here I Go Again

Thinking I have contracted a bad case of not-want-to-stay-home-itis!
Decided to go to San Francisco and 48 hours later I left on a 7am flight

Upon arriving I met up with my posse of hip young 20-somethings and the shopping, walking, eating, shopping, walking, eating began!

Purchased a BEAUTIFUL leather belt from Kye which he custom fit :)
etsy.com/shop/LifetimeLeather

Ended an extremely long first day at a Beer Garden in Hayes Valley.
( note to self; very difficult to keep up with young people )

Day two was a bright shiny beautiful San Francisco day so we spent it eating, walking and...

sssshhhhhhh...lots of shopping

Having exhausted my credit cards, day three was  all about enjoying the incredibly beautiful weather...

by starting with a delicious picnic lunch at Crissy Field and then FINALLY...

walking over the Golden Gate Bridge !!!
Three miles EACH WAY.
It was exhausting and awesome.

If you care what my girlie's iPhone is wearing :)

Ended a long hot day with the perfect ice cream.

Day four was just a quick good-bye to my lovely young girlies,

Someone is tired of taking pictures!

Flip flops were only choice after at least 9 miles of walking day before

Another perfect ice cream ( did I mention it was really hot in San Francisco ) and then back to my real life and real laundry and real work and real bills and real housework and really...I could go on

Stuff I didn't need but bought anyways!
Beautiful leather belt from Kyle the sidewalk vendor
Golden Gate Bridge postcard from its' opening day in 1934
Golden Gate baseball cap because it was really hot and I forgot a hat!
Raspberry velvet slip-ons because they were only $24
Lambs wool beret by Ralph Lauren
Gold wire knot ring from sidewalk vendor ( bought one for each of my girlies also :)

oops...can't forget the cool enamel duck pin I bought in Chinatown for $2.99 ( love! )

I really do leave a little of my heart in San Francisco each time I visit.

Time Travel

As a new member of the Costume Guild West I attended my first meeting this weekend.
I joined the guild because I really miss theater and costuming :(

1920s

Many of the members were attired in costumes, really fashions from many time periods.

Outfit for Madri Gras in New Orleans

Okay, there were some steampunk and just fun, wacky outfits also...

Sack Back Gown
What I found interesting was how easily the women functioned while wearing the garments.
It really was a glimpse into the past and a living history lesson.
Just so interesting to me.

From head to toe these costumes were very impressive.
